Climate Change & Sustainability

At Barley Barkway Federation, we support our team to help children and young people understand climate change and how to care for our planet.

Our Mission

We aim to nurture and inform our children by:

  • Embedding sustainability and climate change across the whole curriculum

  • Developing a shared, age-appropriate language around climate change and sustainability

  • Lead regular assemblies to raise the profile of Climate issues and National days.

  • Appoint an Eco Council and School Council to share information and be the voice of our school.

  • Raising awareness of how climate change affects our community and the wider world

  • Preparing children for extreme weather and its impact on people and the environment

  • Encouraging care for the environment and positive action to reduce climate impact

  • Supporting staff to address eco-anxiety in a sensitive and reassuring way

  • Helping children talk confidently about climate change, ask questions, and learn together

  • Fostering care for our local community and natural environment

Our Commitment

We are committed to achieving our mission by:

  • Ensuring climate education is inclusive and accessible for all children from EYFS to LKS2.

  • Embedding climate change in our curriculum, stories and information sharing.
