Wraparound Care

Dear Parents and Carers,

Following our recent consultation regarding changes to the school day, I am delighted to share further information about our wraparound care and enrichment club offer from September 2026.

At Barley and Barkway Federation, we recognise how important high-quality, flexible childcare is for our families. We also believe that after-school provision should be more than simply childcare; it should provide children with exciting opportunities to develop new skills, discover new interests and spend time with friends in a fun and nurturing environment.

We are excited to offer the following clubs from September:

WednesdaySports Club led by Mrs Edwards and Mrs Bailey

ThursdayMusic Club led by Mrs Preston

FridayDrawing and Painting Club led by Mrs Das

Our enrichment clubs are designed to provide children with opportunities to be creative, active, develop new interests and spend time with friends in a fun and supportive environment.

One of the things we are particularly proud of is the flexibility of our provision. We understand that family commitments and working patterns can vary from week to week, so there is no requirement for your child to attend the same club each week or to book wraparound care on the same days and at the same times each week. Whether you need regular childcare or occasional sessions, you can book our provision in a way that best suits your family's needs and your child's interests.

You may:

  • Book wraparound care and clubs as a regular block of sessions or on a weekly basis.
  • Choose different clubs on different days if your child would enjoy a variety of activities.
  • Use our provision in a way that best meets the needs of your family and your child.

Our aim is for our wraparound care to be both practical for parents and carers and exciting and enriching for our children.

For the safety and wellbeing of all children attending our provision, there will always be a minimum of two members of staff on site during our wraparound care sessions. This ensures that we maintain the highest standards of safeguarding, health and safety and are able to respond effectively to the needs of our children at all times. In addition, all members of staff running and supporting our clubs hold a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate and are trained in the safe preparation and serving of food and drinks. All staff are also trained in Emergency First Aid, ensuring that children can enjoy their snacks and refreshments and take part in activities safely as part of our high-quality provision.

Booking for September 2026

If your child would like to attend wraparound care or any of our enrichment clubs from September, please complete a Wraparound Care Application Form before the end of the summer term. Forms can be collected from either school office.

If you already know which clubs and wraparound care sessions your child would like to attend, please also complete the Wraparound Care Enrichment Club Booking Form at the back of the application form.

If you are unsure of your requirements at this stage, please do not worry. One of the things we value most about our provision is its flexibility. You can simply email Mrs Piper at admin@barleybarkway.herts.sch.uk to book wraparound care sessions and enrichment clubs throughout the Autumn Term as and when they are needed.

If your child already attends wraparound care at Barley and has set days in place, these arrangements will automatically continue in September unless you let us know that you would like to make any changes.

To help us ensure that appropriate staffing is in place from the start of term, if you know that your child will require wraparound care on the first two days back – Thursday 3rd September and Friday 4th September – we would be grateful for confirmation before the summer holidays.

For our families at Barkway, Breakfast Club and after-school care will continue to be provided by Barkway Preschool, as they are currently (please contact Barkway Preschool to register). However, Barkway children are also very welcome to join our enrichment clubs at Barley between 3.30pm and 4.30pm. Parents and carers would simply need to arrange transport from Barkway to Barley in time for the start of the club.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm wishes,

Miss Mière
